Yesterday TechHub NYC hosted its June Dev Dive at the offices of Union Square Ventures in Flat Iron for mobile industry networking, pizza, beer, and knowledge. Peter Farago, VP of Marketing at Flurry shared some interesting stats about the mobile apps industry with the 100+ attendees:
- There are about 900K new Android devices activated each day
- On a daily average, consumers spend 94 minutes on mobile apps and only 72 minutes on desktop browsing the web
- Video consumption on mobile apps are also dramatically increasing – consumers on average spend 231 minutes on iPhone/Android video apps and 425 minutes on the YouTube website per month. That’s 35% of video time consumed on mobile.
- A lot of Gen-Yers develop relationships with mobile more and more that in some cases its become their 1st screen. Thus lots of funding is focused on mobile nowadays.
- For advertisers, the price to acquire 1 consumer via TV costs $72 compared to $0.90 via mobile apps
Met several interesting people during the mixer part of event, here are a few I’d like to highlight:
Ambar Shrivastava, Founder of peeriscope. The peeriscope app is like match-making for professionals, for professional reasons. You can discover people you want to meet based on their location and what they do. His app is available in the iTunes AppStore now.
Francisco Prat, he created LifeWellth, it’s a mobile app that helps with your financial planning and management. The app lets you define your financial goals for retirement, buying a house, etc. using drag-and-drop these goals onto your “timeline” in the app. If you deviate from your goals, the app will recalculate outcomes and provide suggestions on how to get back on track. His app is also available in iTunes AppStore now.
Anton Narusberg from Cannedapps, a mobile apps development company from Sweden that is setting up shop in NYC. Aside from mobile apps, they have been working with car manufacturers on integrating apps into car dashboards to provide entertainment content to drivers and passengers in Europe.
