Imagine a job fair with open bar, artists painting live, opportunities to network with your industry idols, ping-pong tournaments, and an after party with LCD Sound System. Formerly the Silicon Alley Talent Fair, Uncubed NYC rallied 80+ New York startups and emerging companies to throw this new kind of startup talent event to recruit programmers, designers and marketers in the NY tech community.

Uncubed NYC took place on Nov 12th & 13th at the Altman Building in Chelsea, Manhattan. Day 1 of the event, Scout, or ‘the love child of a circus and a job fair’, as described on their Splash page, had companies setup interactive booths to meet talents along with founder storytelling sessions, lean startup workshops, and open bar. Day 2 of the event, Scale, was “A day of discussions about growth and partnerships told by over 40 of NYC’s leading entrepreneurs”, had an impressive lineup of industry thought leaders including Gary Vaynerchuk, Wall Street Journal best selling author and Founder of VaynerMedia, David Karp, Founder of Tumblr, Jennifer Fleiss, Rent the Runway, Paul Berry, Rebel Mouse, and many more.

During Gary Vaynerchuk’s session, he gave advice to the audience to “look in the mirror and stop lying to yourself”: instead of convincing yourself that you’re good at something you’re not, find the one thing you’re best at and triple down on that. During Felix Salmon‘s, Reuters financial journalist, interview with David Karp, David expressed “you no longer need to be an original content creator to be a publisher.” And that “Curators by re-blogging unlock a chance to express themselves, curators serve as an amplifying function and multiplies the voices of core creator communities by 10x”.

Uncubed is an event by Wakefield, in partnership with NYC Digital.
